Cheap and Easy Teeth Whitening

Ever wondered how to get whiter teeth on a budget? Dentistry bleaching is far too pricey, and even Crest Strips are expensive! I love having white teeth, but teeth whitening products can really add up. My husband uses hydrogen peroxide 3% as a mouthwash (instructions are on the bottle) and it keeps his teeth very white. I noticed a significant difference after just two uses.

One bottle of hydrogen peroxide costs .47 and the results are just as good as (if not better than) my fancy teeth whitening products!

I can see how this would work...I guess the trick would be to make sure you use only the right amount, though!

I just saw your post below, too...what beautiful children, and adorably baby girl! :)

Happy WFMW!

Will have to check out this. I used to use H202 and gargle for sore throats. It tasted so bad, I almost gagged. However, I am in Germany, there are no directions on the bottle. Could you help with the directions?

Any idea if hydrogen peroxide thins tooth enamel and makes teeth transparent like traditional tooth whitening products do?

Thank you Tammy!

Susan- I will look on the bottle and post the instructions for you.

Brandy- I am not sure of the full effects of it on the teeth, from all the research we have done, hydrogen peroxide is the main ingredient in most teeth whitening products. Crest strips are made from 6-14% hydrogen peroxide (much stronger) and claim to be enamel safe. I also assume that H202 would not have instructions for mouthwash/gargling if it was unsafe for teeth. I hope that helps :)

This is also good for any sores you might have in your mouth.

I just use it straight from the bottle. I wonder if that is bad on my teeth?!

Great tip! It's also good to have around for removing some stains in the laundry. It works great on the jersey when Mr. Brownstone gets a nasty scrape playing softball!

Thanks for sharing!

Oh, a clothing stain remover too! I didn't know that one, thank you!

Great tip. I'm getting my braces off in 3 weeks and definitely want to whiten my teeth!

Directions on the 3% hydrogen peroxide bottle:
Use for:
topical antiseptic
cleansing agent for minor cuts and abrasions
dental rinse
mouthwash and gargle
May be used full strength or diluted with water as a gargle. Avoid swallowing and rinse with plain water after using. May also be used as a cleansing agent on minor cuts, scratches, and abrasions of the skin.

I use hydrogen peroxide to whiten my teeth too. I just paint it on with a Q-Tip, smile like a looney while I get dressed or brush my hair etc (for about 30 seconds) and then just brush 'em. My teeth have never been whiter. Even worth the extra trip to the "apothecary" (in Germany you have to go to the "apotheke" to buy anything resembling medicine including this).

Great article - I can't wait to try this out! I usually use baking soda (just a sprinkle on top of my toothpaste) and it tends to help a bit but I've heard that hydrogen peroxide can give you canker sores so idk. Still going to try it.
