what i wore this week {6 hairstyles edition}

After the last wiww {I'm in a headband-rut edition}, I determined that I would not wear a headband for at least...

...a few days. :D

So this week's wiww is brought to you headband free. :D I did manage to wear a few different outfits too... yay for variety! ;)

style 1: hair down in all it's craziness

this outfit could be sponsored by American Eagle {if only}... shirt, $9/ jeans $26/ belt, AE too/ leather shoes, Jessica Simpson, $20/ earrings: Target, $3

Oh, and I got those AE artist jeans on sale with a coupon this year at American Eagle, and my husband loves them. It's always a good thing when the husband loves the clothes and says so. :) It's funny, but I knew when I tried them on at the store that he would like them. :D {I love being married for 10 years!}

style 2: the heavy side sweep

This is one of my favorite outfits. I scored the sweater at Old Navy for $9 back in the spring, and the trousers are Anoname for $7 at Goodwill. Same shoes as last time. They get lots of wear! ;) It's definitely my favorite comfy-casual outfit!

style 3: the updo

Okay, so I tried to do that poufy top thing, and it definitely felt retro. But the problem was that I ended up feeling as old as the hairdo. :)

Eh. Not my fave. ;) I probably should've avoided the vintage satiny top with the vintagey earrings, with the vintage hair-do.

shirt, $10/ jeans, $6 Gap/ same shoes {ahem.}

style 4: the half-back

Not the football player kind. Though I did play on a boy's baseball team in high school. {We didn't have softball, so several girls got to play on the boys team one year. We didn't play much, but it was fun!}.

shirt: GW, $4/ scarf: $9/Marshall's / jeans, AE, $27 {two years ago}/ same shoes {this is getting embarrassing...lol!}

style 5: the half-twist

We had a cold front come through last weekend, and I actually had to wear a jacket and boots! :D wohoo, Texas! Way to go! Thank you. And I love you.

trench: Gap, $15/ scarf: AE, $15/ jeans: $6/ boots: vintage Frye's/ ebay find

style 6: the hair-bow

umm...this is what you wear on reorganize-your-room day.

{just keeping it real. ha!}

I'm curious: how many different hairstyles do you usually wear in a week? This was such a challenge for me! {which is evidence that I was in a hair rut for sure!}

I've been in a hair rut lately, too! Usually I'd say, "But there isn't all that much you can do with long, thick, curly hair!" But you just showed me wrong. So I guess I have no excuse :)

I wear a half twist on one side often, or just braid it when I know I'm not going out of the house. The last girl who cut my hair did a terrible job, and the layers are basically two lengths in a really choppy, yucky way. I have to twist my hair if I want to be able to pull it back, or otherwise I have curls springing loose all day (which I always think looks so pretty on other people, but it drives me crazy to have hair in my face).

My one year old daughter was born with tons of curly hair (sorry, kid!), and it's given people an excuse to ask me, "Does this mean your hair is natural?" Ha! Like I'd pay to do this on purpose :)

Thanks for the inspiring styles! I actually love the way you look with the vintage updo! So cute!

I love the updo the best. Can't believe you felt old like that. I would have to say that I generally wear my hair 3 ways - always. Ponytail, Twisted up with a clip, or down.

oh, do let me know how it goes!! :D

Thanks so much for this post! I have long super curly hair too, and it is not always easy coming up with new hair do ideas. I'm going to try these out. Thanks again!

heehee! I know curly hair is so hard to get cut sometimes! {then humidity makes it worse! lol!} Oh, I'm so glad the updo looked better than I thought! haha! :D thank you for your kind words!

I love your hair all those ways, and as a fellow curly redhead, it's nice to see some inspiration since most days I pull mine back in a clip - can't stand hair in my face! Do you ever straighten yours? I like it on me but rarely take the time.
Question: How does your hair get so long? I feel like I get to the middle of my back (but then it springs up when it dries) and by that point I feel I'm being strangled by my own hair! Also, no matter how long I let it go, it always tends to appear shoulder level - more springing up, I guess.

Anyway, thanks for posting - love all your clothes too!

i like #1, 3, 4, and 5. i think the updo was great thou! i go thru about 3-4 hairstyles a week its either down all the way, in a ponytail, bun or covered. :)

I love all the different styles. I would love to say that I have different hair styles. But basically it is just a pony tail and a messy bun-thing. I have long, oily, thick hair. I have to wash it every day and it would take literally 30 minutes to blow dry. I blow dry for special occasions but I hate it. And so I leave it wet mostly...and up it goes.

I have long thick wavy hair, so usually I wear it in a high or low ponytail or in a bun. Sometimes I will pull most of it back into a ponytail and leave just the back down.. If I get in a silly mood, I have worn my hair in pigtails.
Loved your bun.

I enjoyed this post. :) I have long, thick hair without bangs. I really hate having my hair in my face, so I've developed a lot of styles to keep my hair nicely contained. When I've had time to blow-dry it straight, I like to wear it down with just the front pulled off my face with an alligator clip (actually, I have to use a couple overlapping each other because my hair is THICK and HEAVY and will slip out of just one clip). Or, I wear it in a low ponytail, braid a bit of the underside of the pony, wrap that braid around the elastic, and pin in place - just to make it a bit prettier than a boring ol' ponytail. I try not to JUST wear a ponytail because it makes me feel dowdy.

On days when I haven't straightened my hair, it's a big, wavy, cranky mess. Then I'll go for a low bun, like a chignon - just parted on the side and pulled straight back from my face, then twisted tightly and pinned at the nape of my neck. It's quite severe, but I like this look especially when paired with a pair of classic heels and maybe a blouse or a pencil skirt. Sometimes I'll do a braided bun instead of a plain one. Or, if I don't do a bun, I'll do a side braid, a French braid, French braided pigtails, or if it's an at-home day, just two braids like Anne of Green Gables - not my most stylish, but great for keeping my hair off my face.

Sometimes I get tired of the work that goes into having long hair, but I do love all the variety of styles I can wear. :)

Really liked the up-do on you :) You could drop the poof a little if you really didn't like it.
Style number 4 is pretty as well.

My hair is long and thick, and has curls too, just not as curly as yours. I'm always amazed at your pics and how often you leave it down! I'm always pulling mine back. Wish I had the patience to keep mine down like you do! It always ends up in a pony. Have you tried Lila Rose clips? I never thought any clip would hold all of my hair, but they do and are amazing!

Wow! I would love to just have half of your hair! You are beautiful, and all the hairdos looked good on you. You might like the bun more, if like someone said previously, you didn't have the top so poofy. Love your blog.
