8 thrifty walmart finds I love this week

You know I love finding adorable things at a good price... so today I thought I would share some fun things I loved at....

Anthro

Target

Walmart. :D

Hey, Anthro and Target are both lovely, but almost all of us have a Walmart nearby and are on a budget, right? :)

Here are a few very affordable things from Wally World that caught my eye recently!! {oh, and I'm not sponsored by or an affiliate of Walmart in any way- just a frequent shopper...heheh!}

1. Yummy candles in cute jars for $5. :D
This one reminded me of my favorite Anthro scent.  Well, almost, but not quite as good. :D But it still smells so lovely!

Hazelnut Cream is my go-to scent for our house. I loved Yankee candles before {especially pumpkin!} but these are 1/4- 1/5 of the price, smell just as good, and last just as long.

2. Running shorts for less than $7!!
I've worn these and really like them- they aren't as short as most, and don't hang as strangely as some longer ones I've tried. They remind me of my Nike Tempo shorts, only they are less than 1/3 of the price! {confession: even with my growing belly (and everything else!), I'm still in love with workout clothes! :) hey, and it's a good reason to buy a few new pieces, right? ;)}

Here's the Nike version I have:

And here's the Walmart version again in another cute color:

3. Teal polka-dot tanks for $3.94.
I don't wear cotton ribbed tanks too often {too hot for me in Texas these days}, but if I did I would snatch this one right up:

I thought this one would be adorable paired with a swim skirt or shorts underneath- so vintage!

They had other cute modest full-length style swimsuits and bottoms too- a rare thing to find in that price range. :D

5. Neon youth cotton tees, $3.47.
Seriously, you can't beat $3.47 for a good t-shirt! That's barely more than the price of Goodwill, and without all of the stains!!

6. Pretty scarves for $6.96!
Why pay $10-$20 for a scarf again? I thought all of these were adorable, and that large green striped one under the pink was a knit infinity scarf! SO cute!

This is probably the most exciting find from Walmart in a while- I picked up this skirt for less than $13! They are sold out online in this color, but they have gray/blue left, and they might still have the bright one in your store if you're looking for one! :D

8. A fun spring silky top for $10.88!
Here's an online find I haven't seen in person but would love to try if I weren't going to be hugely preggo this summer: this cute spring Alexis Taylor vintage style top for $10.88:

Have you found any cute stuff at Wally World lately? Any good deals you loved?
In non-cutesy news, they now have Great Value Salt and Vinegar kettle chips. OH my goodness, cravings, stay away!

Do you buy groceries at Walmart too?
I used to buy them there all the time, but now we only pick up a few things that we can't buy at Sam's Club like plain greek yogurt, stevia, mousse, socks, facial products, etc...

What's your favorite place to find cheap workout or regular clothes?

So weird that you posted this today. I was at Wal mart yesterday for the first time in ages and I stopped and picked up the maxi skirt, scarves, tank that you mentioned for a closer look.

I was actually planning to shop for some much needed new clothing this weekend. I think I'll checkout Walmart before heading to a bigger town with more choices!

My problem with Wal-Mart is the clothes look good on the rack but after one wash they are falling apart. They just don't have the same quality you would get at a good department store. For me, it's worth paying, a little higher sale price, to get better quality. The scarves are fine, because you don't tend to wash them as much.

I have purchased that hazelnut candle plenty of times, always love it. That maxi skirt is pretty.

I have one of the scarves and it is so soft! We fortunately have had great luck with clothing purchases from Wal-Mart and seriously the work out clothes are great!! Thanks for posting this!

I've actually stopped shopping at Walmart recently. I now buy most of my groceries at the supermarket since their produce is much better and lasts longer. Sure you're paying a bit more but it doesn't go bad as soon as you take it home.

I usually don't buy clothes at Walmart but I do LOVE the ribbed tanks from there. Right now I probably have about 5 of them hanging in my closet. I think they're great for the terrible Florida heat we get. What do you wear in the summers in Texas? You should do a post about that (if you haven't already), I'd be very interested.

Susie's Deal's is hit and miss. Some days I can find such great deals for myself and my older girls but other visits the clothes are to trashy. I love the skirt you found!! Sadly there are none left in my size :( Never know IN the store though? Time to go shopping!!

Hi Mandy,

One thing in the list that may be worth splurging on is candles. Especially since you're expecting (I am as well) you may want to look into some of the not so lovely issues cheap candles can cause. They're made with petroleum and chemical scents (not essential oils) as well as lead-based metal wicks. All of these yuckies create air pollution indoors and you end up breathing a bunch of unhealthy stuff. Hopefully I haven't scared you because that's not my intention. I only tell you this because I think you're wonderful and want you and your fam to be healthy! It's also an excuse to splurge on a beautiful candle elsewhere! ;-)

I'm loving the Faded Glory color jeggings my Wal-Mart has right now. They have all the trendy colors (sunny yellow, mint, aqua, coral, blue...)and they are less than $10 a pair. Super cute, and great for the growing bellies. ;)

How cool! Great minds think alike!! :D They've come a long way with some of their stuff, haven't they? :D

Mandy said...

oooh, let me know how it goes!! :D I hope you find something awesome!

I have had that problem in the past too, so I tend to avoid any sort of cotton top in general {even from Old Navy and Target}, unless it's an undershirt or a name brand FOTL or Hanes t-shirt, but I've had such great luck with their athletic non-cotton clothes and my skirt seemed well made with a poly-blend of some kind, so I'm hoping I won't have any problems! :)

Mandy said...

Oh, have you tried the pumpkin Walmart brand too? I love that one also! :)

Mandy said...

It's amazing how cheap they are compared to even Target, isn't it? I'm shocked by the price and the quality. I've had good luck with all my non-cotton work out clothes there! :D Thanks for sharing! :)

I love the Hazelnut candle! It's great smelling & strong, which is what I like. My house is large-ish & I want a candle to smell up the place! I've splurged for some of the pricier ones that didn't get the job done{YC}. Expensive does not always mean better.

Mandy said...

I usually wear the lightest clothes I can find from about April on... lol! :) I usually avoid layers and any cotton because I sweat so much in our old house, which is why I don't buy many ribbed tanks anymore, but I love American Eagle flowy tops! :D I'm so glad to know they're good to wear though! They are so cheap even compared to Target and Old Navy! I might have to go back and try one again! :D

Mandy said...

oh let me know what you find! :D good luck!!

Mandy said...

Oh, that's true! I will have to check that out! I've never thought of it before- thank you for sharing! and congratulations!! wohoo for babies!

Mandy said...

oh! I need to look again! I saw some cute bright pants at a distance but then got distracted! I'm so excited to know they have them! Thanks for letting me know, girlie! :DDD

When I was in high school, I refused to buy clothes from Walmart because I thought I was "too cool" for that. Now that I'm having to pay for my own clothes, though, Walmart seems cooler and cooler! Haha :) Not to mention that they really have come a long way with their designs and such!

I used to love YC years ago, but after buying a couple I couldn't bring myself to pay for them again, so I broke down and bought a Walmart one, and haven't looked back since- they are surprisingly good aren't they? I'm amazed! :D

Mandy said...

Oh my goodness, me too! I remember being so embarrassed to shop their clothes when I was a teenager! And now, I love it! hahahha! It's funny how time and money change everything, isn't it? heheee!

For candles, my favorite is the expensive, wooden wick ones they have at Cracker Barrel. The ones I have cost $25 apiece but they are SOY instead of wax, last about 4 years of heavy use and make the most wonderful "fireplace crackle" sound. Very nice for "romantic moments". :-) I find soy wax much less irritating to my sinuses.

My favorite place to buy workout clothes is TJ Max. They have the best quality, name brand stuff at ridiculously cheap prices- if you are willing to dig and look. I can't afford the expensive stuff at regular price but the cheaper brands just cannot hold up to my workouts. I got a sleeveless, adorable workout top and some of those skin tight, capri length pants for $9.99 per piece at my local TJ Max. Both were sporting goods store brands (can't remember what brands).

I have no success at Sam's Club for anything. My local one is full of processed, sugar loaded foods which we don't eat. Unless I'm in the mood for freezing or canning, I don't buy their produce. We can never eat it before it goes bad (even with 6 of us). I do not have the storage space for a zillion rolls of toilet paper and I find that I pay about the same price per unit by just buying it at WalMart in the quantity that I can actually manage. I shop at Walmart for all of my "stock up" stuff. Our local one has a lot of healthy foods at much lower prices than anywhere else (flours, cereals, broth, organic dairy products) and we buy all of our non-food items there also. I buy all of my produce and meat at the supermarket. I find WalMart is NOT a good place to buy either of those items. I love Walmart's jeans for me. I wear their Lee Rider jeans almost exclusively because they are a better fit on my very curvy shape than even the super expensive ones! I buy a lot of kids' clothes at Walmart too. I hold to the philosophy that kids should WEAR their clothes and spill things and get dirty. I buy cheap clothes, let them wear them out in one season and then give them to hubby for cleaning rags and buy new ones. Saves a lot of hysteria over them ruining expensive clothes and no one really wants hand me downs anyway. They'd rather have new, cheap clothes that they picked themselves than their sister's out-of-date leftovers. :-)

I buy the hazelnut candles too, they are my favorite! I used to always get the big fat one ( I don't know the proper term) but I don't see them anymore so I get the jar candle. I hadn't thought to look at their scarves, what a good deal!!

I love finding random goodies at Wal-Mart!! My recent find was comfy pajama pants for $5!! I love picking up basic pieces (shorts, capris, t-shirts) for my kiddos there too.

Kerry said...

I saw that maxi skirt, too! Isn't it cute?! :)

I just found you on Pinterest and am so happy! Your WM recommendations are just what I've been looking for. Do you post updates every week?

Love that skirt! I look awful in maxi skirts but that one is adorable.

I get almost all my clothing at thrifts. You cannot beat the price. Today I found a current Anthropologie ruffled sweatshirt for under $4. Their website has it for $80! Crazy.

My work out clothing also comes from thrifts...and Lululemon. Ha! I buy tops at thrifts and then splurge on bottoms from Lulu or get my Lulu on ebay.

Great WM finds! Lately have haven't had much browsing time @ WM. We have had our 3 kids (5 & under) and it is just "get in & get out" and pray for not too much crying....LOL!
But when I get a chance to browse, I think they have some great trendy pieces....like those scarves....too cute!

I do buy most of my groceries there too. I do think their produce isn't as good, as some others have mentioned. But I live in a small town and when we make a trip to the big city I usually only have sanity for my errands & WM....no other grocery stores :) Sometimes we do hit Sams too. But we have just certain things we get there. If you go in there w/o a plan, things can get crazy @ the register! haha!

I know you mentioned buying Greek Yogurt @ Sams, and I used to do the same til I started making my own. Yep, its crazy EASY and I LOVE it! I get 4 lbs of Greek-style plain yogurt from 1 gallon of 1% milk. It is way CHEAPER. I wouldn't have ventured into this realm if one of my fave food bloggers hadn't done a step-by-step photo tutorial of it. And it is done in the crockpot no less.....sweet! I had all of the stuff to do it on hand. The only modification I made was putting mine on a heating pad on the countertop overnight instead of in the oven. If I start it in the afternoon, it is done in the AM!
I just add honey or low-sugar jelly to it for my kids. They eat it or dip their fruit in it :) You should try it! It totally makes you feel like a kitchen rockstar!!

Here's the link w/ all the info: (don't let it scare you w/ all the photos. She just took a photo of every.single.step to make it easier.

You can see my comment at the bottom under "leigh anne". Let me know if you give it a go! I'm no kitchen whiz and if I can do it, anybody can :)

I could spend hours upon hours on your blog. I am SO HAPPY to have found you. I think I linked here from Pinterest, I don't remember but I found you the other day and I have been meaning to sit sound with something to drink and just read. Your heart for Jesus and love for your family is so encouraging to me as a momma just starting (I have a three year old and a baby due in June)... and I have to admit I have coveted over your hair and your house :/ beautiful. My husband is in the AF and we will be moving to Texas next year...what area are you from? We are moving to San Angelo..kind of in the middle of nowhere but I am excited for the change. We are currently stationed in WA state near Seattle and I will shed many tears when we leave here, but this is an excellent opportunity for my husband's career in the Air Force and I know God has a plan and a purpose!
I am not usually a Wal*Mart shopper... the only one close to us right now isn't very nice but I am wanting to make a trip to our good one now because I want to check out those scarves, I totally need a pair of those shorts for this summer, and the maxi skirt is adorable! Thanks for sharing!!

I used to shop at Walmart for everything expect clothes. I usually price match and coupon shop until they have been giving me a hard time with coupons for various reasons. My favorite clothing store is Kohl's. I like to find the FREE Hispanic newspaper for a coupons. Usually $10 off of $30 purchase and I pair it with a coupon a 10%, 20%, or 30% off, I receive in my e-mail. I've gotten Levi's Jeans, Vanity Fair Bras, Croft & Barrow shirts all for less than $30. :D (Please considered I haven't shopped for new clothes since 2009/2010.) I do have enough sense to know prices hiked and sales aren't that great. :) I've got a great bathing suit on clearance at Kohl's 2 pieces for the price of one piece. I'll have to check out some tanks at WM and see if they are that cheap at my store. Could always use tanks with summer coming. ;-)

Thanks Mandy for this post and for the comments from other readers. God has presented my family with an opportunity to move to the States from New Zealand. We're selling/donating everything and just taking our suitcases with us so we're going to be starting from scratch when we get to the US. I've been looking at prices on the web at Walmart, Sears, Old Navy and Gap (for clothes) and Ikea and Target (for furniture) and comparing prices... it's difficult to know quality without seeing the items, so it's great to hear people's opinions. We'll be road-tripping from the West Coast to the East Coast and plan to investigate the outlet malls in Vegas on the way, but not sure if the malls are really only good for high-end items (ie Gucci, etc). I am also not sure about how the items at the cheaper stores are made, if I need to worry about inadvertently supporting sweatshops, etc. So much to think about!!

oh, thanks for sharing, Tam- I will have to look into those CB candles! 4 years is a long time! :D We have a Marshall's here, and I love TJ Maxx too! We go through tp like crazy here- a massive box will last us about 6-8 weeks, which is really good for us :D And I love hearing your favorites at Walmart too! :D

I'm actually wearing that skirt right now (my kids got it for me for Valentine's Day). It is incredibly comfy, and pretty well made with one exception. The elastic band has started to "roll". Not sure what to do about it, I still LOVE the skirt! It's the first clothing item we've gotten from Wal-Mart in a LONG time.

Cheryl said...

Wow! I'm so in love with this blog. We go broke buying Greek yogurt even though I shop Aldi's and it's a bit cheaper. My husband and I go through a couple of containers a week so I will definitely try making it myself. And we, too, add a sweetener (Aguave nectar) and I like to put a chia seed mixture I make into it. It gives it a tapioca pudding consistency.

I've had an adorable cotton sundress from Walmart for AT LEAST 4 years and it looks like I've worn it for maybe a year. I think a lot of clothes are rolling off the same factory line anyway so why not pay less so you have less to lose? :)

I'm so HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY that you posted this, because this goes against EVERYTHING internet bloggers blog about {which is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS high end stuff like target/gap/urban outfitters} and WHY? because it's the cool thing to do. but you know what? I shop at Walmart and i love their prices. And I'm sticking to that. So thanks for this post! I am SO glad to find someone who shops there too!
