I've been waiting for this all my life...

I've been waiting for this day ever since I was a little girl...

I used to dress up my dolls with a matching t-shirt nightgown {remember those?}, and now I get to match my girls. ;) They were so excited. I found them on clearance in the girls' section at the Gap outlet- it was really the first time they've had all of our sizes. Of course we had to wear them at the same time and take a picture. :)

While we were out for the day, we went to our local whole foods store to pick up French's mustard:

Just kidding. :) We did pick up mustard, but we found a few fun things too- like these okra chips:

I have no idea what they did to these to make them so crunchy and light, but I'm quite sure it's the only way I could ever be able to overeat okra. They are fantastic.

I'm going to try my best to stick with the okra chips from now on. I'm saying a fond goodbye to aisles like these...

thanks to the major sugar reactions I've been having lately. If I eat anything that is really sweet {even a sweet potato}, within 30 minutes my head and face starts killing me, my blood pressure goes up and I feel really irritable. I've had this happen before when I was eating really clean, and I've been eating pretty well, but I think it may be more related to nursing blood sugar this time. Either way, there goes anything really sweet. I can no longer handle the consequences. :(

To avoid blood sugar crashes, I'm welcoming back early a.m. protein like this omelet:

I will miss sweets though. It actually made me a little sad to hurry past all the Cadbury eggs at Target. {Cadbury eggs are the best candy on the planet.} Luckily, all these bright patterns were distracting me in the form of adorable throw pillows. ;)

\

I resisted their beckoning, mentally chanting "do you want to pay off your house?" over and over, though there were good reasons these pouf ottomans with outdoor fabric needed me to buy them.  I wonder if the devil loves Target because it is so very ridiculously easy to covet there. I probably should have been praying instead of talking to myself, you know?

Rob gave me a few hours to myself on Saturday night so I wandered through Target with a drink and popcorn. FYI, it is probably not the best place to go if you like colorful ottomans and want to control your desires/spending. Or, maybe it is a good place to go if you need a little extra sanctification and revealing of your sinful nature. Ugh.

They will even test you in the garden section with these randomly placed 1 lb. chocolate bunnies.

What is it with the garden, anyway?

Man.

Training and self-discipline are on my mind this week- for myself and the kids. Food, desires, sleep, attitudes, schedules, spending... so many areas that need improvement right now. I can tell we all need a spring break. And more training.

I've had this Child Training Bible kit waiting to do since I got pregnant with Zane {sweet Mindy from CTB sent it to me as a gift!}, so after school, the boys are going to help me assemble it and read all the verses as they highlight them as a project. I'm thinking it's a win-win for everyone. ;)

We're also doing some sleep schedule re-working with the time change this week. It's been rough so far, but we're so happy for the extra hour of daylight, and the return of the sunshine after the big storm. Remind me not to ever despise Texas weather, because warm sunshine a couple of days after an ice storm is a pretty great thing. :)

Come, come sweet Spring {break}.

Did the sunshine return at your house?

Are you feeling the spring fever too?
I'm not sure if it's the homeschooling or what, but I'm so ready! :)

Cadbury eggs- love them or hate them? Or your favorite Easter candy ever? {that I will no longer be able to eat???? I'll live vicariously through you.}
I've found most people to either love those famous, wonderful chocolate eggs or hate them altogether.  ;)

Love, Love, Love Cadbury Eggs and Yellow Chicken Peeps. I too believe Satan likes to temp us with all the "I wants" in Target :)

Ha, ha... The devil went down to Target! Seriously!!! I was just reminiscing to my husband about the days before kids, and how I would browse nearly every isle at Target. Now it's a very strategic grab n go!

I cannot stand Cadbury eggs and my husband LOVES them. I do love yellow peeps though, I need to go get some!

Without a doubt, Reese's Peanut Butter eggs are my Easter candy weakness!

I'm not usually a sweet eater. Cadbury eggs are too sweet for me. But I do love Target, throw pillows, & pretty colors. And I'm very interested in the 'Child Training Bible Kit'. Is 2 1/2 yrs too young?

Mandy said...

I totally know what you mean! Maybe it's a good thing we don't have much time to browse anymore! hehe! :)

Mandy said...

oh, I like peeps too! Sugar...mmmmm....!!! {sugarless day #2 talking}

I would say it's never too early to use the CTB- it guides you so very well- we are so thankful for it already and we've just started! The Word of God is so amazing and the guide really helps you find applicable scripture for training, which is wonderful. :)

Have a great day girlie!

I'm with you on both counts! :)

oh, yes! Have you ever had Reese's pb solo? I saw it at the store this week!

I detest Cadbury eggs, but I always buy them for my best friend because she loves them. It is the only thing, I believe, that we can't come to agree on!! We both quite fondly agree on Target! :) We LOVE our CTB. Have had it for over a year. (my kids are 8, 6, 5 and 2). I even purchased one for my sister-in-law because we liked ours so much. We have used it enough that now we often don't even need to turn to the verse for our kids to be able to say it! :) Good training! The sun is out here in Ohio today, thankfully, but I'm afraid we will be playing in the snow for our spring break next week. I'm ready for shorter, lighter clothes and less boot wearing!!

Cadburry Eggs are my favorite too! My hubby thinks they are just gross! What's wrong with him? tee hee. Thank goodness we are having sunshine and 60 degree temps here in Ohio today. However, more snow/ice coming Wednesday. This has been the winter that would never end!

I have never liked eggs, so I wouldn't even try Cadbury's eggs as a child. But, once I tried them as an adult I immediately fell in love! I remember thinking, "They don't taste like eggs at all! They taste like sugar!" I have been pregnant/nursing the last 3 Easters so I have eaten 2 people's worth of them. And I think the devil absolutely hangs out in Target......temptation! Ugh! :D

I loooooove Cadbury eggs! I'm sorry you have to give them up. Nursing my son was so easy. The only things I had to avoid were onions (it made sandwiches a little boring, but it wasn't earth shattering). Now I'm expecting my second, and I'm terrified that I'll have to avoid certain foods! And I'm totally loving this weather. Bring on spring!

I'm sugar free too, along with being grain free and low carb, high fat. It been an amazing journey to health, and I'm so thankful the Lord let me find way of eating. It's been a total lifestyle change for my whole family. And I've needed his strength to resist the temptation of sweets. Lol.

I have been wanting to get one of those child training bible sets! It's a wonderful idea. =)

My husband thinks Cadbury eggs are the best but I can't stand them. They are so sickeningly sweet to me, they just turn my stomach!
We have the spring fever here; in the lovely NE Ohio! Took a sunny adventure through the snow at a local park! We all loved it!

Adorable photo. I love the matching shirts! I adore Cadbury cream eggs but not the caramel ones. I don't allow myself to buy them since I will eat all of them immediately. I have no will power.

Thankfully I don't have spring fever but I think my hubby does. He walks and memorizes Bible verses almost every day. He does it in the winter!

Its a blessing in disguise when our bodies begin to reject food we love to love but that is, at its root, not the best for us! And, girl, I was at Target this weekend and sometimes it can be hit or miss, but it is currently on the HIT end! And everything was on sale! AND there's a $10 off $50 text coupon available for home decor!

Hi! I absolutely love your picture!!!! I often have my 2 children in co-ordinating outfits but hopefully I can match them one day too! I too love home design and decor and I feel the exact same way as you while walking through Target!!!! I sometimes love it a lot and other times find I'm wanting way too much! Thanks for such a great post! Have a great day:)

I love Cadbury eggs, but alas, I am diabetic, so not a good thing for me. I have learned the only way I can stop coveting things, is don't go to the store and just browse. It seems so harmless, but the things I see that I really, really want (just heard the Spice Girls in my head, ugh) just pop up in my mind constantly. I can even overspend at GoodWill!

I have recently started having a reaction to processed sugar too. My heart beats funny! I do normally have some palpitations or flutterings or whatever is going on so I know how to recognize when my heart isn't beating right.

I had the SAME thing happen to me though...I started eating clean, then really clean and now it's like my system can no longer process processed sugar! I can still do raw honey, pure maple syrup and fruits and the higher-sugar veggies. I sure hope those don't start bothering me too.

In a way, I'm thankful...actually in a BIG WAY I'm thankful! Cause that stuff is just calorie-laden JUNK and now I've been blessed with the motivation and desire to NOT eat it!

And even though I don't have kids, I'd love to mark a Bible with all those great verses for my own life lessons = )

I love the Child Training Bible kit! I find myself using it more for me than anyone else. :)
It's wonderful! I highly recommend it. Love, love, love. Can't say enough.

I get the same sugar issues when I eat donuts. I think it's the white carbs and sugar all mixed in. It's the craziest reaction, but as much as I love an apple fritter, I hate the way I feel when I eat them. The physical reaction (pain and discomfort) far outweigh the taste.

Silly question... I've been looking for something like the Child Training Kit for myself! I'm trying to "learn" the Bible and its hard! Where did you get it?!

jennifermcbroom said...

I'm working on eating clean, it is REALLY hard for me because I feel like I cook ALL the time. I am trying to lose weight and felt like this would be a good way to go. No sugar is difficult, especially since I'm pretty much addicted to it. I am going to find healthier alternatives though! You can do it and plus you feel so much better when you don't eat those things that make you sick. I have different reactions but the attitude is one! ;)

I think the mini Cabury eggs are my favorite candy in the world! If I could only eat one kind of candy for the rest of my life, I'd choose those pastel little eggs of joy! I actually am breastfeeding right now too and have noticed a difference in the way my body feels after I eat too much candy/ sweets. My doctor said that I had inflammation in my muscles. It was a combination of eating too much sugar and not drinking enough water. My baby was pulling as much of the good stuff as it could through my breastmilk from my muscles. Dehydration can seriously pull a number on you. I have to cut back (Can't cut out) the sugar too and remember to drink as much water as I can. Hope you stay strong on the sugar-free thing and feel better.

I LOVE LOVE Cadbury eggs!!! But I am observing Lent (yes, even though I'm a Baptist girl) and I gave up sweets. It's been really hard. I love all the candy they put out for Easter.
I clicked on that link for the CTB kit. So neat and something I definitely want to order. I am just wondering if they offer the same kit you have. Because I couldn't find a kit that had the Bible, the 3 tabbing charts , post its and the sharpie's. Maybe I should ask them, because I would love the entire kit.
Love your blog!!!

Oh the cadbury eggs! How I love and miss them! I too can't do any sweets or chocolate. For me it is not a head/face ache it is heart palpitations and anxiety. Lovely. But, if any body around me eats a cadbury egg I have to at least smell it. Inhale its wonderful aroma! :)
Owen has been sleeping terrible this week and I feel so droopy. :( He is seven months old and I think he might be waking up scared. Not sure though what is going on.
I so have spring fever but we are looking at another big snowstorm with accumulations up to 18 inches. Maybe this will be the last hurrah.

Janelle said...

Haha, I just read my post and realized how very random it was! Sorry! Need more sleep :)

1- We had sunshine but then it went away. We're suppose to get at least 12-18" of snow if not more over Wednesday and Thursday. Then back up to 44 and sunny on Saturday. At least the snow will melt quickly. :)

2- Spring fever, yes! We make maple syrup so we need those 40 degree days, 20 degree nights. Then we can move on to real spring with no more 3-4ft of snow in my yard. :)

3- Hate Cadbury eggs. Yuck! I much prefer Reese Eggs. :)

Totally different topic. Do you have a blog button? I would love to put a link to your blog on my blog. I like to share my favorite blogs with my readers. :)

you make maple syrup?? Wow!! The reese's eggs are too good!! I used to have one but I'm going to add that to my list- I totally didn't remember to make one so I will soon! :)

and thank you for sharing!! :D

Mandy said...

girl, if you were random I didn't notice! Zane is sleeping terribly too so I'm with you. Like all out screaming instantly when he wakes up- is it a stage and their just starting to dream? I wonder why!!

Mandy said...

I think you might have to purchases them separately through amazon, and they give you the links so you can choose your colors under either the supplies or order tab. Let me know how you like it! :)

Mandy said...

that is so interesting!! I know I can always drink more water! thank you for sharing!

Janelle said...

Hmm, that is what Owen is doing...every time he wakes. I think that they are so aware now and that is going to be a new learning curve. So weird though because he is sleeping so much worse that when he was a newborn. Have you started Zane on food yet? I haven't yet and don't usually until they are almost a year but maybe he is ready for something more...

I'm living off that okra - love it - so crunchy.

I'm on my second sugar free week... I am/was a major sugar addict but I realised it was time to go cold turkey and cut it all out (even fruit for the time being). And I sadly but gladly know this is for life now. I've been shocked to find out how they add sugar to everything and have been struggling to eat anything that is not homemade from scratch! Mayonnaise, ketchup, most ham, most crisps, sauces, bread, cereal etc are all out!! But my mind is clear and my body likes the new diet! Here's to happy sugar-free life! ;)

A great place to get egg whites for replacing noodles in every dish is Subway. Their egg whites are the perfect size to layer in my crock pot for lasagna. I also just cut them in strips for tuna or chicken noodle casseroles. I will be praying for your diligence in avoiding the Easter candy. :)
