homemaking hack: sock storage for the whole family

A little secret about me: laundry is probably the homemaking duty in which I try to cut corners the most. We have SO many people and SO many clothes. And with so many feet in our house, socks magically seem to both multiply and disappear at the same time. There has to be some kind scientific theory to account for this mystery, right?

Tired of all the sock hunting escapades and weary of newly washed socks being strewn about the house, we made a single home for every sock owned by every person in our house.

Enter the sock bucket:

It works strangely well, though it is slightly difficult to find matching socks since we don't pair them in advance:

I purchase plain socks as often as I can to ease the matchless sock burden, but more often than not I don't care if my socks match when I'm running outside. :D Most of the children have their own style of socks that set them apart from the rest as well, so they can easily find their own.

It's a simple trick, but it has simplified our laundry sorting, folding, and organizing to such a degree that I'd have a difficult time going back to normal sock sorting ways ever again. :D

How do you deal with socks in your house? Any awesome tips to share?

  1. Socks are the bane of my existence. I hardly wear them, but my daughter and husband have so many and they are constantly getting lost!

Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I love hearing from you!
