a surprise parents' day // 3.14.2018


Last week the kids surprised us with a "Parents' Day" lunch and presents! The older kids thought it up all on their own and declared that "Pi Day" meant Parents' Day at our house. :) I went to the gym during the lunch hour and came back home to fresh chicken caesar salad, french bread, and chocolate chip cookies!



They also had all of my drink choices ice cold and waiting... :)


The kitchen was clean, and they set the table for us and made our plates. (!) It was delicious and relaxing- they even waited on us like servers and ate after we both finished. :)


Then we opened presents, and found they had made us gifts. :) Sweet, sweet Ava surprised her dad with a $20 bill (a good percentage of the money she has saved). The very love of that gesture went straight to her daddy's (and mama's) heart.

Our children are truly teaching us that the promises of God are true:

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
    the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
    are the children of one's youth.
Blessed is the man
    who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
    when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Psalm 127:3-5

They are a blessing, a heritage, and a reward. And already they are our best little friends. :)

  3. Surprise celebrations led by your children are so special! Thank you for sharing this story!
    This year on our wedding anniversary, we had been fixing a washer and hadn't had much spacial celebrating, so our children made a party, completely with granola bars for snacks, signs for where to sit, and they put on a musical performance.

  4. How sweet! I have been following your blog for about two years now and I just love how sweet and thoughtful your kiddos are. You are definitely teaching them to love and serve well. I have two young boys myself and I hope they grow up to be as sweet!
